The Network and Cyber Security Lab provides undergraduate students with essential knowledge and hands‑on experience in protecting digital systems, networks, and data. Our lab focuses on fundamental concepts of networking, security principles, threat analysis, and practical defense techniques used in modern information systems. Students learn how cyber attacks occur, how to analyze vulnerabilities, and how to design effective security strategies that align with real-world industry practices.
Students who participate in activities and coursework in this lab will be able to:
Understand core networking concepts such as protocols, routing, switching, and network architecture.
Identify common cyber threats, attacks, and system vulnerabilities.
Apply security techniques such as authentication, encryption, access control, and network monitoring.
Use professional cybersecurity tools for analysis, testing, and defense.
Evaluate risks and propose effective security solutions for organizations.
Develop ethical awareness and responsible behavior in cybersecurity practices.
Our laboratory sessions and learning modules include:
Network models (OSI/ TCP/IP)
IP addressing and subnetting
Switching and routing fundamentals
Wireless networks and IoT communication
Principles of confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA triad)
Types of malware and cyber attacks
Penetration testing processes
Security policies, standards, and best practices
Firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS)
Log analysis and security monitoring
Secure network design
Incident response and digital forensics basics
Encryption and decryption methods
Hashing and digital signatures
Public key infrastructure (PKI)
Students gain practical experience using widely adopted tools such as:
Wireshark (network analysis)
Nmap (network scanning)
Kali Linux tools for vulnerability assessments
Firewall configuration platforms
Virtual machines and network simulators (Packet Tracer, GNS3, etc.)
Our lab uses a blended approach that includes:
Hands-on practice with real and simulated networks
Problem‑based learning through case studies and security scenarios
Interactive workshops led by instructors and guest experts
Projects and assessments that focus on practical skill development
This ensures students are not only learning concepts but applying them in real-world contexts.
This lab is designed for undergraduate students enrolled in programs related to:
Computer Engineering
